real talk i’m annoyed at the fact that y’all (rightfully) got angry after evans/renner made some anti-feminist jokes, to the point where they had to issue an apology, but yesterday renner & ruffalo adamantly used the g*psy slur after being told it was offensive and i haven’t seen a single post about it

racism is a nonissue apparently

Here is one source.

“There was also a Graham Norton appearance where Elizabeth Olsen said Scarlet Witch had “g*psy-like” style. Norton warned her against using that term, and Renner and Mark Ruffalo chanted “g*psy” in response. Dude bros strike again.”

Gross.

So I looked through the notes, and apparently some people think that because that part of the show was cut from the final version and never aired, no one needs to talk about this.  Racism is still racism even if it doesn’t make it onto tv.

markruffalo this still deserves an apology.

And that’s one of the many reasons removing these characters from their roots is so harmful. Wanda can be ‘sort of a g*psy’ hahahaha, but not, heaven forbid, actually one.

This whitewashed version of the Maximoffs are still connected to anti-romani stereotypes (“Like if they see a street vendor, they just grab something off the street vendor, so it hints to Eastern Europe but it’s also kind of this g*psy, vagabond feel as well”) and can wear ‘g*psy inspired’ clothing (“We wanted to embody the Eastern European look and g*psy pulled together look”), but they don’t get the positive parts of the representation along with it.

It’s gross and it’s wrong and everyone associated with it should be ashamed.
